A dog died after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 5 near Boise, Idaho, a spokeswoman for the Idaho Transportation Department said Friday.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound near the I-5 overpass when it struck the dog and killed the animal.
Idaho State Police said the dog was identified as an 18-month-old Maltese named “Rudy.”
The dog was taken to the veterinarian for medical care.
“The department is looking into the cause of this accident and we will work with the Idaho Humane Society to provide any assistance needed,” spokeswoman Lauren Smith said in a statement.
The highway was closed Friday for a three-mile stretch of I-75 and Interstate 5.
